David Bowie - Trends

I've been looking at trends in fashion, that give off that David Bowie vibe, I wanted to see what type of thing I should be looking at and it hopefully will give me inspiration when I go to start designing.

This collection below is from the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2013 RTW where he looked at inspiring musicians these photos are from the David Bowie part of his collection.

& Here is some photos from Balmain F/W 2013-14 Collection, I believe this has an incredible David Bowie feel to it, with the huge oversized jackets and even the hair of the models.

Print

For my new project, I'm looking at 70's architecture and I've decided to use that idea in my print. I wanted the patterns in flat tower blocks to be brought forward into my print. I have done a bit of visual research and here are some images that I have found that I find interesting and go well with my idea.

70's Architecture

Because I want to look at the architecture that was around when Bowie was at his peak I've decided to have a look at some 70's architecture, and wow isn't it coming around again. Some of the things that I'm about to post look modern but I promise you they're aren't. Here are some photos:

Bowie

So he's releasing a new album, an brand new exhibition is happening at the V&A what a perfect opportunity to do my next project on the one and only BOWIE.
I'm so excited, I love the man and I know he has given so much to the fashion industry, I'm looking at David Bowie and the architecture of the time he was at his peek. The project is on drapping or structure... obviously I'm going for structure and I cannot wait to make a wacky amazing garment that goes well with the amazing man himself. I've decided to post a couple of my favourite Bowie outfits on here to start my research.

Survey

I got my results back from my survey, and I don't really want to say much on here about it as I really want to leave my results for my essay, but what I do want to say is I'm pleasantly surprised!
I honestly thought when I started this subject about "Green Fashion" (ethical & environmental) that no one really seemed to give a damn, I did think it was a subject we touched on lightly but no-one ever gave a flying f*@!, but apparently we do. Well at least the people that took my survey did, but that leads me to my next issue... WHY ISN'T ENOUGH GETTING DONE!
Why are people in Bangladesh still getting paid £23 a month as minimum wage, why are we letting this happen?

I tell you what I think, we're all caught up in out busy lifestyles that we actually don't care to take action on our feelings. From my survey I found out a lot of people care about whats going on, but I don't see many people doing much about it. Not that I am one to talk because I'm sitting here in my 2 bedroom flat blissfully typing away on my macbook without a care in the world, but I am tempted to start getting people to fight against this. I'm not sure how but watch this space....
